Back in college I had a good guy friend that I hung out with all the time. We would do a lot of things together like going to the park, museum, movies, lunch, etc. We really spent a lot of time together. He was a very sweet guy and fun to hang with, but I wasn’t attracted to him at all.

One day after spending the day doing things we were saying our goodbyes back at my dorm. Right after I tell him I’ll talk to him tomorrow, he leans in to kiss me. I totally freaked out and ran inside leaving him standing there.

He calls me the next day and tells me he wants to start a relationship because he thought we would make a great couple. I don’t know what to say and find a reason to get off the phone.

The next afternoon I’m having lunch with some girl friends and I’m telling them what happened and how I couldn’t ever imagine being attracted to him. I get kicked from under the table and when I turn around and see the guy, looking like he was about to cry. It broke my heart, but at least he got the point.

This happened to me once but I had to find out from someone else that he wanted to be "more than just friends". What does the "just" mean? Its not like I wasn't going to talk to him again because of what he said.

He got more than the point, he was impaled. It reminds me that if we have something to say about someone, they should hear it first. Having been in that situation a couple of times, I found it kinder to say something about not wanting to spoil the friendship, yada yada, especially to someone who was a good friend, sweet and fun to hang out with.
